Two people have died following a collision involving a sedan and a fuel tanker on the N3 freeway in Germiston.
Crash at Grey Avenue off-ramp
The incident occurred on Saturday evening, 25 April 2026, on the N3 northbound near the Grey Avenue off-ramp in the Dinwiddie area.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), the call was received at approximately 19:58.
Two occupants found trapped and declared deceased
Emergency teams from Alberton Fire Station responded with six crew members.
On arrival, the male driver of the sedan, believed to be in his late forties, and a female passenger were found trapped inside the wreckage.
Rescue teams used hydraulic equipment to extricate the occupants.
Both individuals were declared deceased on the scene by paramedics.
Truck driver unharmed
The truck driver was not injured in the collision.
The articulated tanker was transporting approximately 45,000 litres of diesel fuel at the time of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that there was no diesel spillage and no extensive damage reported to the tanker.
Road temporarily closed during rescue operation
The affected section of the N3 was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to conduct rescue and recovery operations.
Investigation underway
The scene was handed over to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) for further investigation.
The cause of the collision has not yet been confirmed.
