Two suspects arrested while transporting explosives worth R975,000 on N1
Two men have been arrested after police discovered explosives worth approximately R975,000 inside a vehicle during a stop-and-search operation on the N1 in Limpopo.
The suspects, aged 30 and 43, were arrested during the early hours of Friday, 30 October 2026, at Kranskop Plaza on the N1 South.
The arrests were made by members of the South African Police Service’s Waterberg Flying Squad, who were conducting routine stop-and-search operations when they stopped a white Toyota Quantum occupied by the two men.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered bags containing explosives. When questioned about the required documentation or permits authorising the transportation of the explosives, the two occupants failed to produce the necessary documents.
The suspects were subsequently arrested on charges relating to the transportation and illegal possession of explosives.
The explosives were valued at approximately R975,000. Police also seized the white Toyota Quantum allegedly used to transport the explosives.
Both suspects are foreign nationals, aged 30 and 43.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 November 2026.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers commended the Waterberg Flying Squad members for their vigilance, saying their actions resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of dangerous explosives.
The circumstances surrounding the transportation of the explosives and their intended destination have not been publicly disclosed.
Investigations are continuing.
