Two suspects have been arrested and firearms seized following a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery reported near Naledi Mall in Vosloorus on Friday, 24 April 2026.
Arrests made during joint law enforcement operation
According to authorities, officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), working alongside the South African Police Service (SAPS) Highway Patrol Unit and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), arrested two male suspects aged 36 and 41.
The arrests were made following intelligence linking the suspects to the earlier CIT robbery.
Suspects traced through intelligence
Police received information that suspects linked to the robbery were attempting to sell an assault rifle concealed in a wheeled dustbin.
Officers proceeded to Goma Street, where the first suspect was located and questioned.
The suspect reportedly admitted to selling the rifle for R500 and led officers to a second individual.
Firearms and ammunition recovered
Law enforcement officials then proceeded to the Vosloorus hostel, where the second suspect was located.
During a search of the premises, officers recovered:
- One R5 rifle
- One Norinco Star pistol
- Two magazines
- Sixty-six rounds of live ammunition
The items were found hidden under a mattress.
A correctional services uniform was also discovered during the search.
Additional firearm-related charges
The second suspect produced a valid licence for the pistol but admitted that it had not been stored in a prescribed safe, as required by law.
He also confirmed that he had purchased the rifle from the first suspect.
Charges and court appearance
Both suspects have been detained at the Vosloorus Police Station.
They are expected to face charges including:
- Theft
- Possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
- Failure to safely store a firearm
They are expected to appear in court soon.

The arrests follow a CIT robbery reported earlier near Naledi Mall along MC Botha Drive.
