Seven members of the same family were abducted from their home in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, before being driven approximately 200km and murdered in the Melmoth area.
Family taken from home during robbery
According to police information, the incident began when suspects broke into the family’s home in Newark.
The victims were tied up and forced into a vehicle belonging to the family before being taken from the property.
The victims ranged in age from their 20s to their 80s and included four women and three men.
Victims transported and killed
Investigations indicate the victims were driven a significant distance, estimated at about 200km, to Melmoth.
Police confirmed that:
- Three victims were shot
- Four victims were stabbed
Their bodies were later found abandoned in a field.
Banking details and robbery linked to crime
Authorities established that suspects demanded banking details and personal identification numbers from the victims.
Money transfers were made from the victims’ bank accounts following the abduction.
Suspects arrested
Police arrested three suspects in connection with the killings.
- Two suspects were arrested in the Hlomendlini area
- A third suspect was arrested in Sundumbili
The suspects, aged 21, 26 and 28, are expected to appear in court.
Police recovered:
- A vehicle linked to the incident
- Multiple cellphones belonging to the victims
- A firearm believed to be used in the crime

Police indicated that at least one of the suspects was known to the family and had previously worked for them.
The motive for the killings remains under investigation.
