A man believed to be linked to multiple sexual assault incidents was apprehended in Parkgate, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday following a pursuit involving community members and private security.
Suspect identified at school premises
According to reports, members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched after a law enforcement officer requested assistance.
Community members had identified a male on school grounds who had allegedly been pointed out by previous victims as being responsible for multiple sexual assaults on the same premises.
At the time of the incident, the suspect was reportedly communicating with a female and was believed to be targeting her.
Foot pursuit leads to arrest
When responding officers approached the suspect, he fled on foot.
An extensive pursuit followed through dense bush, with assistance from members of the community.
The suspect was eventually apprehended and detained at the scene.
Suspect allegedly discarded replica firearm
During an interview with officers, the suspect indicated that a firearm he had been carrying was discarded during the chase.
He further stated that the weapon was a replica firearm.
Linked to multiple cases
The suspect is believed to be linked to at least four other sexual assault cases, although investigations are ongoing.
He was handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.

Authorities have not yet released further details as investigations continue into the alleged incidents.
