One resident who preferred to remain anonymous noted that the area outside the premises was quiet later that day and that police were observed entering and leaving the property.
Casa Bar is a longstanding local establishment on Albert Road in Woodstock, known for serving as a community gathering place involving food, drink, art, and music events.
The GOOD Party condemned the attack. In a statement, the party noted that businesses in areas including Salt River, Woodstock and Observatory have long felt sidelined in local safety structures. Councillor Roscoe Palm said repeated safety strategies have failed to improve conditions and that businesses must play a critical role in co-creating safety plans. The party described the victim as a well-respected, likeable and warm person who has contributed to uplifting local communities, and called for greater support and inclusion of entrepreneurs in safety planning.
