Two men from Parkwood in Cape Town have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of an e-hailing driver. The incident occurred on Saturday, 25 April 2026, at approximately 20:47 in Pers Road, Parkwood.
According to Western Cape police, the e-hailing driver responded to a pick-up request at an address in Pers Road. Two unknown males entered the vehicle. After driving for a while, one suspect seated in the backseat produced a firearm and pointed it at the driver’s back and neck. The second suspect, seated in the front passenger seat, then robbed the driver of his personal belongings and an undisclosed amount of cash before the pair fled the scene.

The entire robbery was recorded on the driver’s dashcam. In the viral two-minute video, the driver is heard engaging casually with the front passenger, who asks his name. The driver replies “Abubakr.” The front passenger comments on the music playing (“Work From Home” by Fifth Harmony) and turns up the volume. At one point, the front passenger signals to the backseat suspect, who then draws the firearm and presses it against the driver’s neck.
The front passenger repeatedly warns his accomplice in Afrikaans, saying “Moenie skiet nie… moet nie skiet nie” (don’t shoot). He orders the driver to remove his hands from the steering wheel and proceeds to rob him. The suspect threatens the driver: “As ek nou hier uit klim gaan ek jou vrek skiet, haal alles uit” (If I get out now I will shoot you dead, take everything out). The driver, who remained calm throughout, pleads with the suspects not to shoot him and offers to be searched, saying he has nothing more. He is forced to unlock his password-protected cellphone and reveal his PIN. After taking the items, both suspects exit the vehicle and instruct the driver to leave the scene.
Grassy Park police registered a case of robbery with a firearm. Western Cape SAPS media liaison Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the details of the incident and stated that the circumstances surrounding it remained under investigation. Police initially appealed to the public for information via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the MySAPS mobile application.
The dashcam footage rapidly went viral across social media platforms. Within hours, community members who recognised the two suspects from the video shared key information with authorities, helping to identify and locate them.
On Tuesday, 28 April 2026, the two men from Parkwood were arrested that afternoon. Reports indicate that the suspects were assaulted by community members before police intervention.
The arrests were announced in a statement highlighting the role of the viral video and rapid public cooperation in tracing the suspects. No further details on the exact location of the arrests, any recovered items, or formal charges beyond the robbery case have been released at this stage.
This incident is the latest in a series of reported robberies targeting e-hailing drivers in the Cape Town area. The dashcam evidence and swift community response led to the quick apprehension of the suspects in this specific case. The investigation by Grassy Park police continues.
