Two South African Police Service (SAPS) members, Constable Zenzile Ntuli and Captain Vusi Skosana, have died in a head-on collision involving a truck on the R573 Moloto Road near Big Tree Mall.
The fatal crash occurred on Saturday, 24 October 2026, while the two police athletes were travelling home after participating in the Jacaranda Marathon in Pretoria.
According to information released by the SAPS National Marathon Association, three people, including the two police members, were involved in the collision. Ntuli and Skosana died at the scene.
No further details about the third person involved or the circumstances leading to the collision were provided in the available reports.
Who were the two police officers?
Constable Zenzile Ntuli was stationed at the Roodeplaat Academy, while Captain Vusi Skosana was attached to the Kwa-Mhlanga Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU).
Both members were active marathon runners who represented the police service in organised athletics events.
Ntuli represented the SAPS Head Office team at the Jacaranda Marathon, completing the race in four hours, 40 minutes and 43 seconds.
Skosana represented the SAPS Mpumalanga team and finished the marathon in five hours, 10 minutes and 25 seconds.
The two members had completed the race before the fatal collision occurred during their journey home.
Ntuli received national athletics award a week earlier
The deaths came just one week after Ntuli and Skosana participated in the SAPS National Marathon Championships, held in the North West Province on 17 October 2026.
Ntuli received the award for First Master Female Athlete at the championships in recognition of her performance in her category.
Their participation in the national championships and the Jacaranda Marathon reflected their involvement in the police service’s organised sporting activities alongside their professional duties.
SAPS athletics community mourns
The SAPS National Marathon Association expressed its grief following the deaths, describing the loss as a major blow to the organisation’s athletics community.
The association paid tribute to both members for their dedication to marathon running and their representation of the police service at sporting events.
It also extended its condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and teammates of Ntuli and Skosana.
The deaths have left the SAPS sporting community mourning two members who had recently competed in major running events before losing their lives in the road collision.
