A family is appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl near Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni during the early hours of the morning.
According to a social media appeal posted by the victim’s father Charl Badenhorst, the collision occurred at approximately 02:00. The family is seeking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information that could assist investigators.
The father alleges that the driver responsible for the crash was intoxicated at the time of the incident. He further claims the collision resulted in the death of his teenage daughter and says the family is attempting to gather evidence and witness statements as part of ongoing efforts to establish exactly what happened.
At this stage, authorities have not publicly released official details regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash, the vehicles involved, or whether any arrests have been made. Police investigations are expected to determine the cause of the collision and whether criminal charges may follow.
Fatal crashes linked to suspected drunk driving remain a major concern on South African roads, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility is reduced and impaired driving incidents are more common.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for motorists to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as for witnesses to serious collisions to assist law enforcement by providing statements, dashcam footage, or cellphone recordings where possible.
The grieving family says any information from members of the public could play an important role in helping investigators piece together the events leading up to the crash.
Police are expected to continue investigating the matter.
