Two Tembisa Women Arrested After Alleged Rape of 32-Year-Old Man in Winnie Mandela Informal Settlement

Two women from Winnie Mandela Zone 4 in Thembisa have been arrested after allegedly raping a 32-year-old man following a night out at a local tavern, according to Tembisa police.

The suspects, both aged 26, were arrested after the victim reported the incident to police. The matter is being investigated by the South African Police Service.

According to information released by Tembisa SAPS communications officer Sergeant Patricia Mgijima, the incident allegedly began at a tavern in Winnie Mandela Zone 8, where the man met the two women.

Police said the trio spent time drinking together before the women allegedly suggested that they continue socialising at their rented backyard room in Winnie Mandela.

The victim reportedly agreed and accompanied the women to the residence.

According to the complainant’s statement, the situation allegedly turned violent once they arrived at the room. The man alleged that he was pushed onto a bed while one of the women restrained his hands. He further claimed that the second suspect removed his clothes and sexually assaulted him.

Police said the victim struggled during the incident and eventually managed to reach for a key and unlock the burglar door.

The landlord reportedly intervened after hearing the commotion. According to police, the landlord assisted the victim by demanding his clothes back from the suspects, allowing the man to flee the scene.

The victim subsequently went to a local police station, where the matter was formally reported.

Tembisa police commended the complainant for reporting the incident, saying many male victims of abuse and sexual violence often remain silent due to stigma and fear of humiliation.

Tembisa Station Commander Brigadier Nkuna said gender-based violence legislation protects all victims, including men and children, and warned that sexual offences committed against men are treated seriously under South African law.

Police stated that rape can leave lasting emotional and psychological trauma on victims regardless of gender.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, where they will face charges of rape.

The investigation remains ongoing.
