Reiger Park, Gauteng – Two suspected armed robbers were shot and killed during a coordinated police operation involving a vehicle pursuit and exchange of gunfire on Monday, 8 June 2026.

Gauteng law enforcement agencies conducted the operation based on intelligence linking a group of suspects to multiple truck hijackings and courier vehicle robberies in the province. Officers located a vehicle believed to be connected to the suspects in Boksburg and attempted to stop it.

The driver of the vehicle did not comply with police instructions and instead sped away, leading to a high-speed chase. The pursuit concluded near an informal settlement in the Reiger Park area.

At that location, the suspects opened fire on the police officers. Officers returned fire, and two suspects inside the vehicle were fatally wounded. Two additional occupants escaped from the vehicle on foot into the nearby informal settlement and remain at large.

During the shootout, one police vehicle sustained damage when its windscreen was struck by bullets. No police officers were injured in the incident.

At the scene, police recovered two unlicensed firearms and the Mazda vehicle involved in the pursuit.

Subsequent investigations led officers to a property in Germiston that was believed to have served as a hideout for the suspects. At this location, authorities recovered a stolen Chevrolet Captiva SUV that was connected to a prior robbery case in Booysens. Several fraudulent vehicle registration plates were also seized from the premises.

Law enforcement continues to investigate the full extent of the suspects’ activities and any potential links to additional serious crimes committed across Gauteng.
