TEMBISA – Two men have been taken into custody in the UMthambeka section of Tembisa following a targeted operation linked to multiple serious crimes, including kidnappings, house robberies, street robberies, and the impersonation of police officers.
The arrests took place on Thursday, 4 June 2026. The suspects, both males aged 28 and 37 respectively, were detained as part of a Crime Intelligence-driven operation. Authorities involved included the Ivory Park SAPS Task Team, Ivory Park Crime Intelligence, and Fidelity ITOC.
During the operation, several items were recovered from the scene. These included two EMPD reflector jackets, one Merafong city traffic reflector jacket, three hand radios, one tonfa, three stamps, two knives, a holster, one laptop, a black plastic toy gun, and approximately 20 stripped cellphones.
The recovered reflector jackets and other equipment suggest the suspects may have used items designed to mimic official law enforcement or traffic personnel. The presence of hand radios, a toy gun, and other paraphernalia further points to alleged efforts to impersonate police officers during the commission of crimes.
The series of offences connected to the suspects reportedly encompassed kidnappings as well as both residential and street-level robberies in the area. The operation highlights coordinated efforts between various law enforcement entities to address such criminal activities in the Tembisa and surrounding regions.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court in the near future, where they will face formal charges related to the alleged crimes.
This development comes as authorities continue to focus on disrupting organised criminal elements that exploit the appearance of legitimacy to carry out unlawful activities. The recovery of multiple cellphones in stripped condition and other goods underscores the scale of the alleged operations that the suspects are believed to have been involved in.
Local law enforcement has emphasised the role of Crime Intelligence in successfully identifying and apprehending the individuals. The collaboration between the Ivory Park SAPS Task Team, Ivory Park Crime Intelligence, and Fidelity ITOC was instrumental in the execution of the operation that led to the arrests and the seizure of the listed items.
Residents in the UMthambeka section and broader Tembisa area may find some reassurance in the swift action taken by the authorities. The case remains ongoing, with further details expected to emerge as the suspects make their court appearance.
No further information regarding additional arrests or linked cases has been released at this stage.
