Two suspects were arrested in separate incidents in Cape Town on Monday, 12 October 2026, after police recovered an unlicensed firearm and drugs in Kraaifontein and confiscated alcohol from an outlet allegedly operating without a valid liquor licence in Khayelitsha.

The arrests took place during separate police operations targeting criminal activity in the Western Cape.

29-Year-Old Man Arrested With Firearm and Drugs in Kraaifontein

The first arrest occurred at approximately 13:00 in Daza Street, Kraaifontein, where Public Order Police members were conducting patrols as part of ongoing efforts to combat gang violence, extortion and robberies.

During the patrol, officers noticed a man walking towards them. According to the information released by police, the man began running when he saw the officers, prompting them to pursue him.

The officers caught up with the suspect and searched him. During the search, they allegedly discovered a 9mm pistol without a serial number inside a sling bag in his possession.

Police also recovered three mandrax tablets and two sachets containing tik from the bag.

The 29-year-old man was arrested on charges relating to possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of drugs.

He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once he has been formally charged.

The operation formed part of police efforts to address violent crime and other criminal activities in Kraaifontein.

Woman Arrested for Alleged Illegal Liquor Trading in Khayelitsha

In a separate incident on the same day, a 23-year-old woman was arrested in Khayelitsha during an operation conducted by members attached to Operation Prosper.

The arrest took place at approximately 14:00 while officers were deployed in Lingelethu West, where they were conducting stop-and-search operations and following up on information about an alcohol outlet operating nearby.

Police proceeded to an address at TR 65 B Bongane Street in Site B, Khayelitsha, where they found a consignment of alcohol.

The woman who was present at the premises was unable to produce a valid licence authorising the sale of liquor, according to the information released by police.

She was subsequently detained on suspicion of dealing in liquor without a valid licence.

The 23-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once she has been formally charged.

Separate Arrests Form Part of Ongoing Police Operations

The two incidents involved different suspects, locations and alleged offences. In Kraaifontein, the investigation concerns the possession of a firearm without a serial number and drugs, while the Khayelitsha case relates to the alleged sale of liquor without the required licence.

Both arrests took place on Monday, 12 October, during police deployments in the Cape Town areas.

The suspects are expected to face the respective charges in court. The allegations have not been tested in court, and both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
