Gauteng police have arrested two young men allegedly connected to multiple cases of kidnapping, robbery, and rape in the Ivory Park area and nearby locations. The arrests resulted from an intelligence-driven operation involving several specialized units.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspects, aged 20 and 21, were taken into custody on 13 July 2026. Officers intercepted a grey Toyota Rumion in Ivory Park Extension 2. The vehicle was positively identified as one used in the commission of the offences and has been seized for further investigation.
The breakthrough followed the reported kidnapping of a 24-year-old woman on 9 July 2026 outside her residence in Ivory Park. The suspects allegedly forced her into a vehicle, drove around with her, and used her cellphone to contact her family while demanding a ransom.
Crime Intelligence, in collaboration with Ivory Park Detectives, the Ivory Park Task Team, and the Provincial Anti-Kidnapping Team, conducted the investigation. Further probes linked the same vehicle to additional similar incidents reported in the Ivory Park and Tembisa policing precincts.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects allegedly targeted victims by kidnapping them, robbing them of valuables, and in some cases sexually assaulting female victims while driving around in the vehicle. The incidents form part of a series affecting the local community.
The two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Police have indicated that further arrests are possible as more evidence emerges and additional victims may come forward. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to address trio crimes—kidnapping, robbery, and related violent offences—in the region.
Ivory Park, located in the Ekurhuleni area of Gauteng, has seen community concerns over such crimes in recent times. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or the dedicated investigation team to assist in building stronger cases against those involved.
