DURBAN – Three wanted suspects were fatally shot during a confrontation with police in the Bester Area 2 section of Inanda, north of Durban, on Monday, 13 July 2026.

The men were actively sought by authorities in connection with a series of armed robberies, including multiple house robberies in the region. An intelligence-led operation conducted by members of the Inanda South African Police Service (SAPS) Task Team, assisted by SA Tactical Enforcement, led officers to a shack where the suspects were located.

According to reports, as police approached the location, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the operational team. This initiated a gunfight, during which all three suspects were killed. No injuries to police personnel have been reported in connection with the incident.

Following the exchange, officers seized three firearms at the scene. Police have stated that investigations are continuing, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend any additional outstanding suspects linked to the same criminal activities.

The operation forms part of broader efforts by KwaZulu-Natal law enforcement to address violent crime, particularly armed robberies that have affected communities in the Inanda and surrounding areas. Inanda SAPS and supporting units have been involved in similar targeted actions against individuals wanted for serious offences.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased suspects, pending formal processes and family notifications. The recovered firearms are expected to undergo ballistic analysis to determine any links to previous robbery scenes or other crimes under investigation.

This incident highlights ongoing police initiatives in the province relying on intelligence gathering and rapid response teams to disrupt criminal networks involved in house invasions and armed hold-ups. SAPS has emphasized that such operations are conducted with the aim of protecting residents while prioritizing officer and public safety.

Further updates are anticipated as forensic investigations and follow-up operations proceed. Communities in Bester and Inanda have been urged to report any relevant information to police regarding the cases the suspects were linked to.
