Three men, aged 28, 32 and 40, were arrested by the South African Police Service on Thursday, 30 July 2026, on charges related to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The arrests followed two separate, unrelated police operations conducted in Makhaza in Khayelitsha and in Kensington, both in the Western Cape.

Police recovered firearms during the operations. Among the weapons seized was a rifle. Ammunition was also recovered. The seized firearms and ammunition have been taken into police custody and will form part of ongoing investigations.

The suspects face firearm-related charges linked to the illegal possession of the recovered weapons and ammunition. No further details on the exact number or types of additional firearms beyond the rifle, the precise circumstances of each operation, or the individual roles of the suspects have been released in the official police statement.

The operations took place in two different parts of Cape Town. Makhaza forms part of the larger Khayelitsha area on the Cape Flats. Kensington is a suburb in the city. Police described the actions as swift and resulting from operational activity on the day.

The recovered items remain under investigation as evidence. Authorities have indicated that the cases will proceed through the standard investigative and prosecutorial processes applicable to illegal firearm possession under South African law.

This account is based solely on the official South African Police Service statement released regarding the incidents of 30 July 2026. No additional confirmed details, suspect identities, or further investigative outcomes have been publicly issued at the time of reporting.
