A male suspect has been arrested in connection with a series of robberies targeting commuters in the Greenbury area of Phoenix following an intelligence-driven operation by KZN VIP Protection Services.

The arrest took place on Monday afternoon after an alleged armed robbery in the area. Members of KZN VIP acted on credible information that led to the swift identification and apprehension of the suspect, who is believed to reside in the Amaoti area.

During the apprehension, the suspect was found in possession of a replica firearm along with multiple blank cartridges.

Information indicates that the arrested individual allegedly formed part of a two-brother operation that had been active in the Greenbury area for some time. The pair is believed to have targeted vulnerable commuters walking to and from their destinations within Greenbury.

According to details received, their alleged method of operation involved one brother confronting victims at gunpoint, stealing their belongings, and then fleeing towards the Whitehouse Shopping Centre. The second brother would allegedly collect the stolen property and transport it back to the Amaoti area, where the items were reportedly sold.

The victim in the Monday incident escaped unharmed.

The arrest is regarded as a significant development in efforts to disrupt the activities of individuals believed to have repeatedly targeted members of the Greenbury community.

Investigations into the matter are continuing. Efforts are underway to locate the second alleged suspect and to determine whether the pair can be linked to additional cases.

Anyone who may have been a victim of similar robberies in the Greenbury area is urged to come forward and open a formal criminal case with the South African Police Service.
