On Tuesday, 26 May 2026, a white Toyota Hiace scholar transport vehicle crashed into a residential property on Buffelsdraai Road in Redcliffe, KwaZulu-Natal.
Reaction Unit South Africa responded to reports of the incident and arrived on the scene at approximately 07:47. The vehicle had veered off the roadway and collided with a house located within an informal settlement.
The impact caused significant structural damage to the property. Two windows were shattered, heavy-duty burglar bars were bent, and a concrete boundary wall was demolished. Debris and vehicle parts were scattered across the surrounding area.
The Toyota Hiace sustained extensive damage. The front section was crushed, the roof caved in, passenger side panels were ripped off, and the driver’s door detached completely during the collision.
Nine children, aged between seven and nine years old, were occupants of the vehicle at the time of the crash. Prior to the arrival of official first responders, the children were privately transported to the Redcliffe Clinic for medical assessment. They were subsequently taken to hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the vehicle was reportedly injured in the crash but was not present at the scene when emergency personnel arrived.
No fatalities were reported in the incident.
The exact circumstances leading to the vehicle leaving the roadway remain under investigation by authorities.
This incident occurred in the Redcliffe area near Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal, a region with a documented history of road incidents on Buffelsdraai Road, including previous taxi-related crashes and abandoned vehicles.

A man believed to be in his fifties was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Edwin Swales Drive in the Bluff area, south of Durban, on Tuesday morning.

South Africa and Nigeria remain two of Africa’s largest economies with strong trade and business ties. However, xenophobic violence and retaliatory protests have repeatedly strained relations between citizens of the two countries over the years.
