A passenger was shot and killed while a taxi driver was injured during a shooting incident in Zonkizizwe, Ekurhuleni, on Monday morning.
According to reports from the scene, unknown suspects opened fire on a minibus taxi while it was transporting passengers in the area. The shooting left one passenger fatally wounded. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
The taxi driver also sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. The extent of the driver’s injuries has not yet been officially confirmed.
Emergency medical services and law enforcement responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Police cordoned off the area while investigators examined the scene and collected evidence.
Authorities have opened cases of murder and attempted murder following the shooting. No arrests had been confirmed at the time of reporting, and the suspects remain at large.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been officially established. Investigators are expected to examine whether the shooting may be linked to ongoing taxi-related violence that has affected parts of Ekurhuleni in recent months.

Residents in Zonkizizwe have continued expressing concern over violent crime and recurring shootings in the community. Community members say fear has increased as incidents involving firearms and targeted attacks continue to occur in the area.
