Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, 38, vanished while on a jog in the Rhodesfield area of Kempton Park on Wednesday. Her body was recovered on Saturday evening and identified at the Germiston mortuary on Monday.
Family reaction
Her cousin, Andries Moraka Matlaila, told TimesLIVE that the loss feels like an endless pain. “It will never be easy to accept what we are going through now. It is painful,” he said, adding that the family is still trying to process the shock.
Matlaila described Moselakgomo as a cheerful, active athlete who loved road running. She leaves behind a daughter and two siblings, and was known as a devoted mother who “loved her family to the core.”
Investigation and recent cases
The Kempton Park jogger murder is the latest in a string of female deaths in Ekurhuleni. In the past two months, four other women’s bodies have been found, three of them near Rhodesfield.
Acting Gauteng police commissioner Maj‑Gen Fred Kekana outlined the cases: a 37‑year‑old woman discovered near the R21 on 15 July, a 32‑year‑old woman found near the same road on 24 August, an unidentified woman found on 10 September, and another victim located in Olifantsfontein on Monday.
One suspect, the boyfriend of the July victim, has been arrested and is in custody.
Community impact
The string of murders has left residents of Kempton Park and the wider Ekurhuleni region on edge. Community leaders are urging authorities to accelerate investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As the family of the Kempton Park jogger murder mourns, they hope their story will keep the spotlight on the ongoing safety concerns and prompt decisive action.
