Johannesburg, South Africa – On Thursday evening, 9 July 2026, members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit (TRU) arrested two male suspects at a residence on Nape Street in Naledi, Soweto, following a tip-off about a vehicle being stripped.

The officers were conducting routine crime prevention duties when they received information regarding suspicious activity at the property. Upon arrival, they found the gate open and proceeded into the yard. The front door of the house was half-open, and there was no response to their knocks. The officers entered the premises and encountered one male suspect inside the house.

According to JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla, the suspect indicated that the vehicle in question was located in the garage and belonged to the homeowner. A thorough inspection of the garage revealed a white VW Caddy belonging to the National Department of Health. A verification check confirmed that the vehicle had been hijacked and was in the process of being stripped.

A further search of the property led to the discovery of a second male suspect hiding in the backyard. Both suspects were immediately arrested.

During an expanded search of the yard, officers made a highly disturbing discovery: two buckets allegedly containing human organs, identified as hearts and lungs. The items were seized as evidence.

The two suspects have been processed and detained at Naledi South African Police Service (SAPS) station. They face charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of human organs.

Investigations are ongoing. JMPD and SAPS are working to establish the origin of the human organs and to locate the homeowner of the property. No further details on the suspects’ identities or the precise source of the organs have been released at this stage.

This incident highlights the continued challenges of vehicle hijackings and related criminal activities in the Johannesburg area, with authorities emphasizing swift response to community tip-offs in disrupting such operations. The discovery of human organs in a residential setting has prompted broader inquiries into potential links to illicit activities.

All information is based on official statements from JMPD and reported developments as of 11 July 2026.
