High-Speed Arrest on R21: 19-Year old Driver Clocked AT 214 KM/H near Boksburg

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a 19-year-old motorist on Friday afternoon for travelling at excessive speed on the R21 freeway near Boksburg.

Officers attached to the High-Speed Unit recorded the grey Audi driven by the teenager at 214 km/h in a section of the freeway where the speed limit is 100 km/h. The driver was pulled over immediately following the recording.

The 19-year-old was placed under arrest on the scene and formally charged with speeding. He faces an alternative charge of reckless and negligent driving.

Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to the Boksburg North Police Station where he was detained. He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court in the near future.

The incident highlights ongoing enforcement efforts by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s High-Speed Unit targeting dangerous driving on major freeways in the area.
