Four Suspects Arrested in Bunganeni

Police in Mbazwana reportedly received information on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, about a vehicle carrying five occupants travelling from Manguzi. The occupants were allegedly linked to a house robbery in Melmoth, KwaZulu-Natal.

During the robbery, valuable household items and a double-cab bakkie were allegedly stolen. A 32-year-old victim was also reportedly abducted and later abandoned in a bush.

Police subsequently spotted a vehicle matching the description and intercepted it in the Bunganeni area. One occupant allegedly fled before the vehicle came to a complete stop.

The four remaining occupants were searched, and police reportedly found three unlicensed firearms and ammunition in their possession.

All four men were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The four accused have been identified as Sphamandla Dube, 33, Mxolisi Mbambo, 30, Musawenkosi Msweli, 24, and Phumlani Mthembu, 25.

They appeared before the Mbazwana Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 22 October 2026, where they were remanded in custody.

The accused are expected to return to the same court on Thursday, 29 October 2026, for a formal bail application.
