George, 5 February 2026 – Police and community members acted quickly on Wednesday afternoon to apprehend three men following an armed robbery at a spaza shop in Pacaltsdorp, resulting in the recovery of stolen items, the seizure of an unlicensed firearm, and the arrest of the suspects.
The incident occurred at approximately 16:30 on 4 February 2026 at a spaza shop located in Japonica Street, New Dawn Park, Pacaltsdorp. Officers from Pacaltsdorp police, supported by the Outeniqua K9 unit and members of the Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team, responded swiftly to the report of the robbery.
Upon arrival, police encountered a group of community members who had already pursued the suspects and cornered one man in the vicinity. Officers took the individual into custody without further incident.
A follow-up search was conducted in the bushes at Zone 06 in Thembalethu, where two additional suspects were located and detained. During a search of the pair, police recovered a 9mm pistol, several cell phones, packets of cigarettes, and cash. Authorities believe some of these items were taken during the robbery at the spaza shop.
Reports indicate that a bystander sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the confrontation with the alleged robbers. The injured man was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
The three suspects remain in police custody and are facing charges including attempted murder, robbery, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. They are expected to appear in court once formal charges have been finalized.
The collaborative effort between law enforcement and the local community contributed to the rapid resolution of the incident and the removal of an unlicensed firearm from circulation. Investigations are ongoing.

The arrests followed actionable intelligence gathered by police units. During the operation, officers recovered two vehicles – a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota C-HR – along with two rifles, two magazines, ammunition, and additional items believed to be connected to the crime.
