Cape Town, South Africa – Stellenbosch FC secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership match at Athlone Stadium on 23 November 2025, thanks to two goals in the final 10 minutes.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the 81st minute when Iqraam Rayners converted a penalty kick to give Stellenbosch the lead. Rayners had earlier equalized for the hosts in the 55th minute, cancelling out Thapelo Maseko’s opener for Gallants in the 22nd minute.
Stellenbosch dominated possession with 58% and created 14 shots on target compared to Gallants’ 7, but struggled to break through until the late surge. Goalkeeper Sage Stephens made five saves for the winners, while defender Athenkosi Mcaba was booked in the 67th minute for a foul.
The result moves Stellenbosch up to 5th place on the Betway Premiership log with 17 points from 9 matches, two points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Marumo Gallants slip to 12th with 10 points.
This win follows Stellenbosch’s progression to the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup, where they will face Orlando Pirates on 7 December 2025. Marumo Gallants advanced past Golden Arrows in the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win on 16 November 2025.
The Betway Premiership resumes on 30 November 2025 with fixtures including Orlando Pirates vs. Richards Bay FC.
