Gqeberha, South Africa – Dugulth Ferreira, widely known by his stage name Junior King, was killed in a head-on vehicle crash on the N1 highway near Verkeerdevlei in the Free State province. The incident occurred at approximately 07:25 a.m. on Thursday, involving a light truck and a sedan. Emergency responders pronounced Ferreira dead at the scene, while three other individuals sustained moderate injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment.
The 28-year-old artist, originally from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, had gained a large following as a rapper, dancer, and TikTok influencer. His content was known for energetic dance routines, original choreography, and humorous skits that connected strongly with South African audiences. In the music industry, Junior King was recognised for his contributions to Afrikaans hip-hop, often addressing cultural themes and the lived experiences of marginalised communities. Just days before the accident, on 5 December, he released his latest project titled The Revenge Album, which highlighted his growth as a performer.
Authorities have confirmed that the collision was a direct head-on impact, but the exact cause remains under investigation. Graphic videos of the aftermath circulated on social media, showing Ferreira with severe facial injuries while seated in the back of one of the vehicles. Some unverified reports suggested he may have been travelling to collect his children at the time of the crash.
