A 32-year-old man sustained minor injuries when his vehicle crashed over a bridge and landed in the river below on New Glasgow Road in Hazelmere, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday.
The incident took place at approximately 12:16. The driver was travelling in a white Ford EcoSport from Hazelmere towards Canelands when he lost control of the vehicle while crossing the bridge. The car veered off the bridge structure and came to rest in the river beneath it.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) members responded to the scene after being called out. Upon arrival, officers located the Ford EcoSport in the river below the bridge. The 32-year-old driver was still at the scene.
The driver told RUSA officers that he lost control of the vehicle while on the bridge. Officers provided first aid to the man on site. He sustained only minor injuries.

A Toyota Hilux bakkie carrying six occupants collided with the side of a Mercedes-Benz sedan. The Hilux then crashed into a Nissan Navara bakkie. Five occupants of the Toyota Hilux and both occupants of the Nissan Navara died at the scene. One of the deceased was a minor.
The three occupants of the Mercedes-Benz sedan survived the collision. Two of them sustained injuries and were transported to Grey Hospital for treatment.
Provincial transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose confirmed the details of the vehicles involved and the sequence of the crash based on preliminary information. No further details on the exact time of the incident or contributing factors have been released, as investigations continue.
Eastern Cape MEC for Transport Xolile Nqatha expressed sadness over the loss of life and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. Four Suspects Fatally Wounded in Police Shootout at Amatikwe Area 2, Inanda
Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal – Four suspects were fatally wounded during a shootout with South African Police Service (SAPS) members in Amatikwe Area 2, Inanda, on the night of Tuesday, 10 February 2026.
Police acted on specific intelligence that the suspects were present at a two-roomed shack house in the informal settlement. The individuals were wanted in connection with cases of murder, attempted murder, and robbery with a firearm.
When officers arrived at the location to apprehend them, the suspects engaged police in a gun battle. The exchange of fire resulted in the four suspects sustaining fatal gunshot wounds. No police officers were injured in the incident.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the operation was intelligence-led and that the suspects opened fire upon the arrival of the police team. “When police arrived at the scene, a shootout ensued between the suspects and police, which resulted in the four wanted suspects sustaining fatal gunshot wounds,” Netshiunda stated.
Following the shootout, officers recovered four pistols and several rounds of ammunition at the scene. The area was secured, and forensic teams processed the site as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident took place in Amatikwe informal settlement, an area within Inanda north of Durban. Police have not released the identities of the deceased suspects at this stage, pending further processes including post-mortems and family notifications.
