Qonce, Eastern Cape – Seven people have died following a collision involving three vehicles on the N2 highway near Bulembu Airport outside Qonce.
A Toyota Hilux bakkie carrying six occupants collided with the side of a Mercedes-Benz sedan. The Hilux then crashed into a Nissan Navara bakkie. Five occupants of the Toyota Hilux and both occupants of the Nissan Navara died at the scene. One of the deceased was a minor.
The three occupants of the Mercedes-Benz sedan survived the collision. Two of them sustained injuries and were transported to Grey Hospital for treatment.
Provincial transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose confirmed the details of the vehicles involved and the sequence of the crash based on preliminary information. No further details on the exact time of the incident or contributing factors have been released, as investigations continue.
