Dokodweni/Tugela River, 25 April 2025 – Two severe collisions on the N2 highway between Tugela River and Dokodweni on Friday evening left two dead and multiple injured, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
At approximately 9:26 PM SAST, IPSS Medical Rescue responded to a single vehicle accident near Dokodweni, where one person sustained minor injuries and three others suffered serious injuries. All victims were treated on-site and transported to medical facilities.

While en route, IPSS paramedics encountered a devastating head-on collision near Tugela River involving two light motor vehicles. Two occupants of one vehicle perished, and one person in the second vehicle sustained serious injuries. Mandeni Fire Department and IPSS Search and Rescue used the Claw of Life, donated by Mozambik Ballito, to extricate the deceased from the wreckage, while paramedics stabilized the injured.

The N2 has a history of accidents, with past incidents linked to factors like drunk driving, as seen in 2022 reports of fatalities and arrests in the area. These collisions underscore ongoing road safety challenges.
IPSS Medical Rescue extended condolences to the families of the deceased and provided an emergency contact, 0823 911 911, for support. The coordinated response highlights the critical role of advanced life support and community-backed rescue efforts in managing such tragedies.
