On April 2, 2025, a deadly shooting involving rival taxi groups erupted in Ennerdale, Johannesburg, intensifying the city's ongoing taxi wars. The incident, centered outside the Ennerdale Taxi Association offices, resulted in at least one fatality, contributing to a broader wave of violence over route control. A related clash on the K43 between Meriteng and Lenasia South at 8:50 AM claimed four lives and left one injured, with high-calibre weapons used in a chaotic ambush involving multiple vehicles. Over the preceding weekend, another shooting in Vlakfontein killed four, underscoring the escalating conflict.

The South African Police Service is investigating, but no official motive has been confirmed, leaving residents and commuters gripped by fear. The community demands urgent security measures and dialogue to curb further bloodshed. The violence highlights deep-seated tensions in Johannesburg’s southern suburbs, where taxi associations fiercely compete, threatening public safety and necessitating immediate action to address underlying issues.
