Family Attacked in Shooting on R603 Near Umbumbulu, Two Dead

Umbumbulu, South of Durban – A tragic shooting incident claimed the lives of a father and his son on Monday afternoon along the R603, south of Durban, after their vehicle broke down. The mother, also injured in the attack, sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene just after 3pm, where paramedics found the family had been targeted by gunmen. According to ALS paramedics, the family had stopped on the roadside due to car trouble when the assailants approached and opened fire. In an attempt to escape, the family fled, but the father and son were fatally wounded. One of the bodies was located near a riverbed close to where the vehicle had stopped.

The mother, who suffered serious gunshot injuries to her lower extremities, was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital for further care. The crime scene spanned a significant distance, reflecting the family’s desperate attempt to outrun the attackers.

Police are investigating the incident, but the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Authorities are appealing for any information that could assist in their inquiries.
