Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) stationed at Atteridgeville arrested a female suspect on Saturday morning after explosives and explosive components were found in her luggage during a routine crime-prevention patrol on the R511 route towards Hartbeespoortdam.
The incident occurred at approximately 09:00 when officers on patrol noticed a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter travelling in the direction of Hartbeespoortdam that appeared suspicious. The vehicle was stopped, and police approached it tactically.
All occupants were instructed to exit the vehicle along with their luggage for a lawful inspection. During the search of the bags, officers discovered several explosives and related components inside the luggage belonging to one of the female passengers.
The woman was unable to provide a satisfactory or valid explanation for possessing the items and was immediately placed under arrest at the scene.

A criminal case docket has been registered, and detectives have commenced investigations to establish the origin of the explosives as well as their intended destination and purpose.
The arrested suspect has been formally charged with the illegal possession of explosives in contravention of the relevant legislation.
Major-General Samuel Thine, the station commander, praised the patrolling members for their vigilance and professional conduct. He stated that their alertness and swift response played a critical role in removing a serious potential threat and contributed directly to the safety of the public.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details about the suspect, the other occupants, or the exact nature and quantity of the explosives have been released at this stage.
