Nigerian rapper and singer Candy Bleakz, whose real name is Blessing Akiode Mariam, was violently attacked and robbed while seated at a coffee shop in Cape Town, South Africa. The 26-year-old artist, signed to Chocolate City Music, lost gold jewelry valued at approximately N10 million during the brazen daytime assault, which took place in full view of security personnel and police officers who did not intervene.

The robbery occurred on Thursday, November 27, 2025, outside the artist’s apartment in what was described as a secure environment. According to statements made by Candy Bleakz herself on Instagram Stories and during a subsequent TikTok live session, a group of assailants arrived in a vehicle bearing the license plate CAA 632754. The suspects entered the coffee shop where she was seated, forcibly removed her gold necklace and other jewelry, and fled the scene. Her phones were not taken. She sustained visible injuries, including cuts to her lips.

Video footage recorded immediately after the incident shows Candy Bleakz confronting a police officer at the scene, questioning why no action was taken as the robbers escaped. She stated that the suspects’ vehicle was still in sight and could have been stopped. She further explained that security guards present at the location did not attempt to intervene, and responding police informed her they were not authorized to pursue or forcibly enter the suspects’ vehicle. An ambulance response was also delayed.

Candy Bleakz emphasized in her posts that the entire incident unfolded “in front of securities in a secure environment” and that she remained alive despite the ordeal. She described owing millions of naira due to the value of the stolen items but affirmed she was otherwise unharmed.

As of November 29, 2025, South African police have not issued an official statement regarding the case, and no arrests have been confirmed.

Candy Bleakz, known for blending Afrobeats, amapiano, and street rap, rose to prominence after joining Chocolate City Music. She has released several singles and the EP Better Days in March 2025. The incident has heightened concerns about the safety of Nigerian entertainers traveling or residing in South Africa, particularly in areas known for robbery and violent crime targeting visible valuables.

The robbery took place just days after the artist had publicly displayed large amounts of cash and jewelry during her visit to the country. Fans and industry peers have expressed shock and support following her account of the events, with many highlighting the failure of on-site security and law enforcement response.

Authorities in Cape Town continue to face scrutiny over response times and protocols in such incidents. No further updates from Candy Bleakz or official sources have been released at the time of publication.
