A man believed to be in his forties was found shot dead on an unpaved road connecting Tangerine Street in Trenance Park, Verulam, to Zwelisha on Thursday afternoon.
The body was discovered by a passerby who alerted authorities. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received the call for assistance at approximately 17:57 and dispatched Reaction Officers to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying face down on the dirt road. He had sustained a single gunshot wound to the face and was bleeding heavily. He was declared deceased at the scene.
Local residents identified the man and confirmed that he lived in the Zwelisha informal settlement and supported himself by selling brooms in the area.
At the scene, officers recovered one live 9mm round and one spent 9mm cartridge.
No suspects have been identified, and the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.
Police are investigating the murder. No further details have been released.
