The inaugural LIV Golf South Africa tournament took place from March 19 to 22, 2026, at The Club at Steyn City in Midrand, Johannesburg. Thomas Detry of 4Aces GC, Branden Grace of Southern Guards GC, and Abraham Ancer of Torque GC tied for third place at 23 under par. Detry posted rounds of 5 under, 4 under, 8 under, and 6 under. Grace posted rounds of 7 under, 5 under, 7 under, and 4 under. Ancer posted rounds of 5 under, 6 under, 7 under, and 5 under.
Dean Burmester of Southern Guards GC and David Puig of Fireballs GC tied for sixth place at 22 under par. Burmester posted rounds of 4 under, 7 under, 6 under, and 5 under. Puig posted rounds of 5 under, 7 under, 5 under, and 5 under.
Carlos Ortiz of Torque GC finished alone in eighth place at 21 under par with rounds of 4 under, 6 under, 6 under, and 5 under.
Anirban Lahiri of Crushers GC and Charles Howell III of Crushers GC tied for ninth place at 20 under par. Lahiri posted rounds of 2 under, 2 under, 8 under, and 8 under. Howell III posted rounds of 8 under, 3 under, 5 under, and 4 under.
Scott Vincent finished 11th at 19 under par with rounds of 5 under, 3 under, 5 under, and 6 under.
Michael La Sasso of HyFlyers GC, Josele Ballester of Fireballs GC, Richard Bland of Cleeks Golf Club, Joaquin Niemann of Torque GC, and Victor Perez of Cleeks Golf Club tied for 12th place at 17 under par.
Louis Oosthuizen of Southern Guards GC, Sergio Garcia of Fireballs GC, Cameron Smith of Ripper GC, Younghan Song of Korean Golf Club, and Laurie Canter of Majesticks Golf Club tied for 17th place at 16 under par.
The all-South African Southern Guards GC team, consisting of Branden Grace, Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, and Charl Schwartzel, served as the home side and received strong local support. The team held the lead on the team leaderboard after the third round.
After the third round, Bryson DeChambeau led the individual standings at 21 under par with rounds of 8 under, 6 under, and 7 under. Branden Grace stood second at 19 under par. Jon Rahm and Abraham Ancer were tied for third at 18 under par. Southern Guards GC led the team competition at that stage.
The 2026 LIV Golf South Africa event concluded on March 22 with the tied individual winners. The final individual leaderboard also included the following additional positions: Jason Kokrak and Adrian Meronk tied at 15 under par; Tom McKibbin, Luis Masaveu, Caleb Surratt, Charl Schwartzel, Brendan Steele, and Talor Gooch tied at 14 under par; and Peter Uihlein at 13 under par.
Further down the standings after 72 holes were Richard T. Lee, Dustin Johnson, Marc Leishman, Martin Kaymer, Lucas Herbert, and Cameron Tringale tied at 12 under par, followed by Sebastian Muñoz at 11 under par and Harold Varner III, Tyrrell Hatton, and Paul Casey tied at 10 under par.
The tournament delivered low scoring across all four rounds at The Club at Steyn City, with multiple players posting rounds in the 60s throughout the week.
A 53-year-old police captain attached to the Bethal Police Station shot and killed a 37-year-old woman before turning his service pistol on himself at a residence in Grootvlei near Balfour, Mpumalanga.
The incident unfolded when the captain arrived at the woman’s home, described by police as his female friend. Entry was initially refused. He then broke a window to force his way inside the residence. Once inside, he chased the victim’s sister out of the house.
The sister left the scene and sought help, which prompted police to be alerted. On arrival, officers found both the captain and the 37-year-old woman lying on the floor inside the residence, each with gunshot wounds. Both were declared dead at the scene.
A service pistol issued to the captain was recovered at the location.
Mpumalanga police have opened a murder docket as well as an inquest into the deaths. Spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the captain broke the window after being refused entry, entered the house, chased the sister away, and was left alone with the woman before the shootings took place. Investigations are continuing.
Suspect Arrested and Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Kwa Mashu Operation
Kwa Mashu, Durban – A suspect has been arrested and a stolen motor vehicle recovered following an intelligence-driven operation in Kwa Mashu.
The vehicle was taken from the Newlands West area, specifically the SteelCastle suburb. Tracking agents and security stakeholders responded to information on the vehicle’s location and arrived at the identified site, where they found it being stripped.
Three suspects fled as the teams moved in. A pursuit followed, during which one suspect was apprehended.
The arrested individual was in possession of vehicle theft equipment, including jamming devices and other tools. The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation. The recovered vehicle was also transferred to SAPS.
CODETA Rank Manager Zwelakhe Lingani and Unidentified Woman Fatally Shot in Suspected Taxi-Related Attack Near Palm Taxi Rank, Delft South
Cape Town – Zwelakhe Lingani, a 50-year-old rank manager for the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Associations (CODETA), and an unidentified woman were shot and killed on Monday evening, 16 March 2026.
The double murder occurred at about 20:15 near the Palm taxi rank in Delft South. Police confirm the pair was travelling in a silver Toyota Fortuner when unknown suspects approached the vehicle and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies and heads. They were declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The body of the female victim remains in the Tygerberg Hospital mortuary, where authorities are seeking her family for identification.
Reports confirm the woman was not Lingani’s wife, who is safe and was not involved in the incident.
Delft police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg stated: “Delft police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Monday evening, 16 March 2026, at about 20:15, near the Palm taxi rank, Delft South, and upon arrival on the scene, they found a 50-year-old male and an adult female who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies. Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. According to reports, the victims were driving in a silver Toyota Fortuner when they were approached by unknown suspects who shot them before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack is believed to be taxi-related.”
Police recovered 85 R5 cartridges and 13 9mm cartridges at the scene.
Delft detectives are investigating two counts of murder. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified.
CODETA spokesperson Nceba Enge confirmed that Lingani was a member of the association.
This incident follows a triple murder at the Voorbrug taxi rank on Delft Main Road on 12 March 2026, in which three taxi operators were killed.

Two Suspects Killed in Police Shootout in KwaNgcolosi After String of Family Murders
KwaNgcolosi, KwaZulu-Natal – Two men have been killed during a confrontation with KZN police in the early hours of this morning.
One of the deceased, believed to be approximately 24 years old, was the main suspect wanted in connection with multiple murders in the area. The second man was his accomplice.
Police located both suspects at a rondavel. When officers confronted them, the two men allegedly opened fire. A shootout followed, resulting in the deaths of both suspects. Two firearms were recovered at the scene. No police members were injured.
The main suspect had been linked to a series of killings, including the deaths of family members. A few days ago, a grandmother and a young girl were shot dead while in their beds at home. Another person present during the attack survived with injuries.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had also targeted his own relatives. He believed his father’s death was connected to witchcraft. The first family member he killed was an aunt, who was stabbed to death. This was followed by the stabbing death of an uncle.
The young girl killed in the recent shooting at the family home had been a witness to the aunt’s murder. In addition, the suspect – who was known to associate with local criminals – recently contacted another uncle by phone and told him that his days were numbered.
The incidents form part of an ongoing investigation into the killings in the KwaNgcolosi area.
Tragedy on Olifantsafontein Road: Young Girl and Avanza Driver Killed in Head-On Collision
A head-on collision between an Avanza and a grey Audi at the intersection of Olifantsafontein Road and South View has claimed the lives of two people, including a young girl.
The driver of the grey Audi, a 30-year-old man, is alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol when the vehicles collided. Officers from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department tested the Audi driver on the scene and recorded an alcohol reading of 0.64.
Paramedics certified both the driver of the Avanza and the female passenger, aged between 10 and 11 years, dead at the scene after they succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
A second passenger in the Avanza, a 16-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries. She was transported to Thembisa Tertiary Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The 30-year-old driver of the Audi was arrested at the scene. He will face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, culpable homicide, and fleeing from the scene of the accident.
