Waterloo, KwaZulu-Natal – An informal dwelling constructed from wood and iron was totally destroyed by fire in the early hours of Saturday morning on Avocadopear Street, Waterloo.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received the call and arrived at the scene at approximately 04:52. Upon arrival, responders found the structure fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighting teams were deployed shortly after the initial response and worked to bring the blaze under control and extinguish it.
Neighbours informed responding members that the owner of the home was not inside or on the property when the fire started.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established and remains under investigation.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Authorities continue to monitor the area, and the community has been reminded to exercise caution with open flames and electrical sources, particularly in informal settlements.
