Fatal Head-On Collision on N12 Claims Seven Lives

A tragic road accident occurred on the N12 highway between Ogies and Emalahleni in Mpumalanga on the morning of December 8, 2025. The incident involved a sedan and a light delivery vehicle that collided head-on, resulting in the deaths of all seven occupants.

The crash happened when one of the vehicles lost control, veered off its lane, crossed the median barrier, and entered the oncoming traffic lane. The N12 at this section features multiple lanes in each direction separated by a median. Authorities have indicated that high speed may have contributed to the loss of control, though this has not been confirmed.

In the sedan, five people were killed: two females and three males. The light delivery vehicle carried two males, both of whom also perished in the collision. No survivors or injuries were reported from the scene.

An investigation has been launched by the police in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison. Reckless and negligent driving has not been ruled out as a potential factor.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, issued a statement calling on drivers to exercise greater caution on the roads and to strictly follow traffic regulations in order to avoid further fatalities and injuries.
