Cape Town, South Africa – Two men were fatally shot in separate incidents near the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on December 3, 2025.
The first incident occurred at 1:45 p.m., when a 32-year-old man was shot and killed while seated in a vehicle approximately 50 meters from the court entrance.
Five minutes later, at around 1:50 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot dead in the nearby Kewtown area, about 300 meters from the court.
According to an eyewitness who was present at the court, the two victims had been leaving the courthouse together. The first victim was approached by a car that stopped near his transport vehicle. Two individuals exited the car and fired multiple shots at him, leaving his body on the pavement.
The second victim, upon observing the initial shooting, attempted to flee the scene. He was pursued by the assailants and shot repeatedly until he fell across the road.
The gunmen escaped in an unknown direction following both shootings.
Crime scene investigators secured and examined two separate locations near the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
Athlone police have registered two murder cases in connection with the events.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that forensic teams are searching the sites for evidence.
The motive behind the shootings remains under investigation.
