Cape Town Traffic Officers Escape Injury After Shootout with Fleeing Suspects

Cape Town, 4 December 2025 – Two City of Cape Town Traffic Officers came under direct gunfire on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, while pursuing armed suspects believed to be linked to a shooting incident at Athlone Magistrate’s Court.

The officers were conducting routine patrols in the Athlone area when they observed an armed male running toward a vehicle and speeding away from the court premises. The officers immediately initiated a pursuit.

The chase proceeded through Athlone and continued in the direction of Langa. As the traffic officers attempted to intercept and block the suspects’ vehicle, occupants of the fleeing car opened fire on the officers’ marked vehicle.
